When you trusted in jesus…
Whether we know it or not, each of us deep down craves adventure. Whether it’s the joy of a new intellectual discovery, pushing your body and mind to their limits, or being immersed in some of the most remote and beautiful places on earth, adventure calls to us. For many, these adventures are not practical or feasible, come with too much risk, or require too significant a commitment of time and resources. Yet, due to our deep desire for adventure, we instead immerse ourselves in the epic journeys and pursuits of others. Whether in movies, images or books, we are addicted to the adventure narrative, craving even just a brief taste of the epic journey. Sometimes these adventures are so inspiring that they motivate us to push past the risks, costs and fears to actually start our own adventure. When you trusted in Jesus, you started a series of grand New Adventures.
These adventures in God can be many and far-reaching, differing greatly for each person, though there are common threads. One of the adventures to which all of us have been called is the adventure of knowing the God of the universe. This adventure of exploration—like deep space or an exotic jungle—is all about searching out things of great value and beauty. If you’re like me, you’d be overjoyed to have the opportunity to sit down for a conversation with one of your heroes, but as followers of Jesus, we now have direct access to the One who created those heroes and set their lives in motion! The deeds and thoughts of even the greatest people are finite, but the exploration of God is never complete, an endless adventure that starts in this life and continues into eternity.
In addition to this grand adventure of exploration, God also has a series of other adventures planned for your life. The Bible makes this clear when it says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). God has set before you an adventure of experiences and tasks for your life, which He has also tailored and made just for you. For some, these adventures will mean taking Jesus’s life and message to remote places at the risk of health and even life, while for others, it might be caring for the vulnerable and broken. Others will have the adventure of raising children to navigate the dangers and challenges of this world in a God-honoring way and still others will become pillars in their local church and community, faithfully addressing life’s countless challenges, enabling others to thrive. These are only some of the countless potential adventures ahead of you, these New Adventures God had prepared for you all along.
